My name is Ilia, I’m 29 and as far as I can remember, I’ve always been a chronic procrastinator. I had lots of work, I knew what I needed to do but I just could not get myself to actually do it. It got to the point when we had to cancel our holiday because I kept on delaying my work as a freelancer “for just one more day” in favour of watching movies and browsing funny pictures on reddit. I had to lie to my girlfriend and say that my client scammed me out of money. I felt horrible. I realised that I was approaching rock bottom and things had to change.
I started researching procrastination and it’s causes, looking into various scientific studies on motivation, discipline and focus. I started reading various self help books, blogs and other resources. I experimented with various methods. Some were more effective than others. But nothing seemed to help me in the long run. I would always relapse a few days later and go back to gaming and browsing reddit.
